Boost volume

Make a quiet recording louder by dB, set its loudness in LUFS, or its peak in dBFS. A limiter keeps it from crackling.

How to do it

  1. 1Choose a recording, or drop it on the box. You will see how loud it is now, in dBFS and LUFS.
  2. 2Pick how to set the volume: a loudness in LUFS, a number of dB louder, or a peak in dBFS.
  3. 3Press Change the volume, then play the before and after.
  4. 4Save the result as an MP3 or a WAV file.

Questions

What is the difference between dB, dBFS and LUFS?
dB is a change: +6 dB is about twice as loud. dBFS is the level of a single point, where 0 dBFS is the loudest a file can hold. LUFS is how loud the whole recording sounds to a person, and it is what YouTube, Spotify and podcast apps measure.
What LUFS should I use?
-14 LUFS for YouTube and Spotify, -16 LUFS for podcasts, -19 LUFS for audiobooks and voice, and -23 LUFS for TV broadcast.
Will it distort?
No. When a peak would go over -1 dBFS, a limiter turns just that moment down smoothly, a few milliseconds before it arrives. Nothing is cut off, so there is no crackle.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser and the file never leaves your computer.
